GRANDRÛ - 2 AOÛT 1944 P-47 Thunderbolt Crash P-47 Thunderbolt - type D-22-RE - s/n 42-26110 - codé 6V # ? 36th FG - 53rd FS - 9th AF L'appareil avait décollé de la base 418 de Kinsnorth dans le Kent (UK) Le chasseur est abattu par la flak vers 16 heures 40 et s'abat sur le territoire de Grandrû à 7 kilomètre au Nord-Est de Noyon. Le pilote, Captain Gulick Jr ROBINSON, aurait accroché son parachute à l'avion au moment du saut et se serait écrasé avec, selon les témoignages des 2Lt GASTON et VEATCH qui ont observé le crash. Captain Gulick Jr ROBINSON, pilote USAAF, O-661801, né le 6 septembre 1920 au Texas (USA), fils de Gulick ROBINSON et de Nettie JORDAN, conjoint de Nancy DENNIS. GRANDRÛ - 2 AOÛT 1944 P-47 Thunderbolt Gulick ROBINSON Jr. was born on September 6, 1920, in Texas. He was the son of Gulick Robinson Sr. and Nettie Lee Jordan Robinson. He enlisted in the service on November 10, 1941. He served in the 53rd Fighter Squadron, 36th Fighter Group, as a Captain and Pilot of P-47 Thunderbolt #42-26110 during World War II. On August 2, 1944, the aircraft was shot down over France during a mission near Noyon in the Oise department. The aircraft had taken off from Station 418 in Kingsnorth, Kent, UK. Around 16:40, it was hit by anti-aircraft fire (flak) near the commune of Grandrû, approximately 7 kilometers northeast of Noyon. It is believed that Cpt Robinson attempted to bail out, but his parachute became entangled with the aircraft. Cpt ROBINSON was Killed in Action and is now buried in the Oakwood Cemetery, Corsicana, Navarro County, Texas, USA. https://uswarmemorials.org/html/people_ ... leID=37824 |
